Abstract

The objective of this research was to identify the level of Mental Toughness (high- medium- low) and the relationship between dimensions of Mental Toughness and the numerical level in middle distance runners. The researcher used the descriptive method on a sample of (48) middle distance runners from sporting clubs and centers in Al-Sharkiya, Al-Dakahlia, Al-Gharbia and Esmailia Governorates. The research tools included Mental Toughnesss cale- measurement of the numerical level of middle distance runners of 800m and 1500m and statistical treatments applied were arithmetic mean, standard deviation, median, skewness coefficient and simple correlation coefficient. The results showed the following:
1-                  800m – 1500m middle distance runners were characterized by medium level of Mental Toughness with its different dimensions.
2-                  There was a positive statistical significant correlation between dimensions of Mental Toughness and the numerical level of middle distance runners.
Recommendations:
1-                  Mental Toughness dimensions should be developed through training and psychological guide programs as they had an active role in upgrading the numerical level of the middle distance runners.
2-                  Training staff of middle distance runners should consider psychological preparation when planning training physical and technical programs.
